Poem: Unapologetically Me

A dark cauldron of emotions.

Turbulent and overflowing.

Cursed by others.

Burdened by another’s indiscretions. 

Misjudgments.

Lies and fabrications.

Selfishness.

And greed.

Dark shadows followed me.

Like a plague.

A tumultuous, lonely journey.

Many barriers to overcome.

The years slip away. 

Fueled by determination.

Resilient.

Its time to let go.

To evolve and grow.

To exhale.

No longer carrying the weight of their actions.

I didn’t know me then.

But I know me now.

I am a masterpiece.

A tapestry of vibrant colors.

I am gifted.

I am strong.

I am brave and courageous.

I am unique.

I am fierce but gentle and kind.

I am independent.

I am a mother, a sister, a cousin, a niece, a best friend.

I am loud, I am vocal.

I am unapologetically me, because now I am free.
