Saint Mary Catholic Church is located in downtown Norwalk, CT. It was founded by the Irish immigrant community and Reverand Brady in 1848.
A fire destroyed the original church on Chapel Street and was torn down by unfriendly neighbors. The community continued to thrive and grow, and the church was rebuilt by the Irish congregation and their Pastor in 1854.
Did you know that up until 1964, all the Pastors at St Mary Church were Irish?
In 1857 Reverend Smith broke ground on the current Gothic Revival structure that was designed by Irish born Architect James Murphy.
