We are halfway through January and the personal investment in ME is well under way.
My life balance was compromised. Regaining control of it was like herding cats. IMPOSSIBLE AND DAUNTING. My physical health was deteriorating; I was drained, stressed and exhausted all the time. Everything felt hopeless. And then it hit me. It happened so fast like a tidal wave of adrenaline rushing through me. Or as my fire fighter brothers and sisters would say.... it was quicker than a flashover. My center of gravity shifted and carried me straight into the new year with a vengeance. It was an awakening. My awakening.
Simply put, becoming a first responder changed my life. The selfless act of caring for someone or running into the adversity, be it a structure fire or an MVA, when everyone else was running out or away is truly inspirational. My brothers and sisters inspire me, they appreciate me, and encourage me... daily. Even though some of my new nicknames are slightly embarrassing, this group of amazing human beings have become my family.
With that, I would like to dedicate this journey to them; my fire and EMS instructors, the 2023 BEFO Class, the extended network of first responders and most especially my CFFD family. Please follow my blog and my journey to wellness, to becoming a better first responder and training for Interior Fire Fighter Operations (IFO). And so, the journey begins.....
Training Day 3, Sunday morning, stair climbing with bunker pants.
