Last night, our Firefighter brothers and sisters from the Golden's Bridge Fire Department hosted a great Water Rescue Training Drill. Visiting departments also in attendance, were Croton Falls, Somers and Yorktown Heights. Boats were launched into the water from two different landings to perform several search and rescue drills. CFFD ran through several training evolutions and successfully rescued several victims strategically scattered about the reservoir. In fact the hosting and visiting departments were all quite successful last night and worked in tandem. Firefighter Sandor, broke in our new motor, AND he successfully convinced me to take control of the boat and throttle. Let's just say that I need a little work but the good thing is, neither of us ended up in the water. I still have a lot to learn!
Key take aways: Safety first, always don the appropriate PPE for Water Rescue. Stay in constant communication with the IC, and maintain situational awareness-you never know what you will meet emerging from the water. Yes, there are critters out there! Something unidentified made its way toward all four boats idling in the water during drill de-briefing. We all voiced our opinions and explored-discussed several very active firefighter imaginations over a wonderful late night dinner.....Could it be a fish? An Alligator or even an Otter....maybe it was our very own Croton Falls Loch Ness Monster. Hey you never know!
Special thanks to Golden's Bridge for the invite! Let's do it again!
Enjoy the pics below and a little video that should hopefully make you chuckle. Can you tell which chair is mine? LOL
