Jumping in here for a quick update, and yes, it's been a while. It's been rough jet-setting through England and Ireland visiting the Fitzpatrick Family! JK. But this girl is back at it, hitting the training hard because yes, its official..... IFO class begins in TEN DAYS~!

First let me say that this is no joke! First Responders are in a league of their own.

#surroundedbylegends.

What started out as my journey to wellness became a thriving passion and boy did that hit me hard and come in from left field. Eager, slightly scared and somewhat ready....the goal was to run through each skill that intimidated me. So, with another firefighter legend by my side, we pushed through another skill exercise using large diameter HDPE Drainpipe to simulate confined space. What is a Confined Space and why do we need to train you ask?

For rescue operations, the general definition of confined space is an area with limited or restricted means of entry and egress-exit. Many people work in places where they carry out daily operations that are dangerous and off limits to anyone else. Silos, tanks and other industrial equipment where there is a great risk of engulfment or drowning. Sometimes even involving hazardous materials. As firefighters, we are trained to use a variety of rescue plans, to recognize the importance of a quick response time, use the right equipment and implement proper safety precautions while understanding the potential hazards.

With that, we started off slow, gradually working up to Full PPE, carrying a pike pole with either my eyes closed or covered with a hood. Each variation went surprisingly well. Sometimes I clearly underestimate myself and completely overwhelmed by the love and support coming from my firefighter brothers and sisters.

Next on the list, Mask Confidence Training-Reduced Profile under the Utility Truck and Tanker 88.

June 1, 2024. I'm ready for the A-Team. T Minus Ten Days and Counting. Let's do this.
